kay, so here I am thinking of writing some interesting stuff about our most favorite and popular person of the whole WordPress Kolkata Community and without keeping the secret for more I must mention his name presenting “WAPPU DA”- The official mascot for WordCamp Kolkata 2019. Well after we posted about WAPPU Da on our official handles wappu da got so much love and compliments that he sort of insisted me to write this blog for him and I m too happy to do this.
If one talks about fashion and style we can very well look wappu da on it as he very well know how to carry himself elegantly with attractive deep blue kurta, and a pure White Bengali dhoti depicting the true Bengali tradition of wearing dhoti on grand occasions and yes with a Clay pot in his hand full of white lazeez Roshogollas… Wappu da’s personal favorite and mine too, as by seeing his Humpty Dumpty body one can easily understand that Wappu Da is a big foodie person and if you live in Kolkata you can’t just stop yourself to be a food panda!
Well, there were some questions asked that why Wappu Da is called da? In order to answer this on his behalf, I must mention that Bengal is not only known for the history which it holds with itself but also the sweetness of people here. The Bengali language is referred to be one of the sweetest and peaceful languages where an elder brother is referred to as “ dada “ and in short “da”. So as most of the WordCamp presents their Wappu. The WordPress Kolkata Community thought to make Wappu da as the leading persona.
The Clay pot full of roshogollas which he holds is called “Hari” in Bengali which makes the roshogullas super tasty with its natural presentational touch signifying his warm welcome to all the attendees and community friends following the great culture of our pristine country- अतिथि देवो भव: अर्थात अतिथि देवतास्वरूप होता है|
Wappu da is a WordPress wizard and love talking and discussing new happenings in WordPress and the open source world. He is excitedly waiting for all the speakers for WordCamp Kolkata to hear them and have a good time with some really good clicks making memories and wishing all other communities a good time!
Sharing an interesting and funny moment when Wappu Da was compared with Chunni babu of Devdas movie …well Wappu da typically looks like a Bengali babu than any chunni babu and to say Wappu da loved the movie and falls under SRK fanbase.

Kolkata is one of those cities where history unfolds itself with every stride. It has witnessed huge transformation since 1690 when Job Charnock first established Calcutta by amalgamating three villages Gobindopur, Sutanuti and Kolikata. Till 1911, Calcutta was the capital of British India.
This entire area had been under different rulers in different periods. Portuguese, French, Nawabs, Rajas, Zamindars and of course Britishers. It was one of the most important trade gates for the country due to its geographical location. Because of this Kolkata welcomed a lot of foreign traders over a long period of time who arrived from different parts of the globe – and quite obviously people residing here kept adapting their culture, life style and of course FOOD!!
