নমস্কার, we all know in Kolkata WordPress Community, we cannot think of Organising a WordCamp without our beloved Wapuu Da. The most favourite and most popular person in the whole WordPress Kolkata Community and without keeping the secret for more I must mention his name presenting “WAPUU DA”- The official mascot for WordCamp Kolkata 2025. Well, since our first WordCamp in 2019, our Wappu Da got so much love and compliments that he sort of insisted we write this blog for him.
If you’re thinking what is Wapuu?
WAPUU is the official mascot of all WordCamps. Started with a simple idea in Japan WordCamp to Promote WordPress in 2009, this cute animate creature a.k.a. Wapuu soon became popular worldwide. What started as a local Japanese community initiative soon became a global symbol to unite WordPress lovers.
Since then, many WordCamps all over the World started using their version of WAPUU reflecting the theme of their local community.
Now coming back to our Wapuu Da, If one talks about fashion and style we can very well see Wapuu da knows very well how to carry himself elegantly with an attractive deep red kurta, and a pure White Bengali dhoti depicting the true Bengali tradition of wearing dhoti on grand occasions and yes riding the famous Yellow Ambassador…
Wappu da’s personal favourite and mine too, as by seeing his Humpty Dumpty body one can easily understand that Wappu Da is a big foodie person and if you live in Kolkata you can’t just stop yourself from being a food panda!
Well, there were some questions asked about why Wapuu Da is called da? To answer this on his behalf, I must mention that Bengal is not only known for the history that it holds with itself but also for the sweetness of the people here. The Bengali language is referred to be one of the sweetest languages where an elder brother is referred to as “ dada “ and in short “da”. So as most of the WordCamp presents their Wapuu. The WordPress Kolkata Community thought to make Wapuu da the leading persona.
The Yellow Ambassador the Wapuu Da is riding is another famous icon of Kolkata. Once called the “The King of Kolkata Roads: The Hondustan Taxi” has become almost synonymous with our city Kolkata.
Wappu da is a WordPress wizard and loves talking and discussing new happenings in WordPress and the open-source world. He is excitedly waiting for all the speakers for WordCamp Kolkata to hear them and have a good time with some good clicks making memories and wishing all other communities a good time!
Ending the post with a message from his side as he is very busy arranging everything so I have to write this – “ Come and do experience the city of joy from your eyes and make our WordCamp super grand with your participation which we are excitedly waiting for: Buy the ticket, pack your bags, book your travellings, and meet me soon” Saying – “আমরা তোমার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছি” (We are Waiting for You)
